The book contains scholarly articles through which Dr. Sujata Bamane examines various literary texts with a feminist perspective. Throughout the book, Dr. Bamane extends the diverse perspectives about women and women’s writing as a reaction to the gender-specific culture which subordinates woman despite being ‘the custodian of social and religious conventions’. Dr. Bamane’s keen observations about women and their roles in the pertaining context of the selected literary texts provide a different angle for discussion. The ‘Multifaceted Discourse’ provided by her in the book widens the scope for analysis in feminism and literature. It also underlines the need to discuss the socio-psychological discourse in women’s writing more intensely. Apart from the feminist critical reflections, the book is innovative for the research and analytical methodology used by Dr. Sujata Bamane. Hence, this book is very useful for the students of literature, feminism, and for the research scholars pursuing research in feminism.

In her pioneering work, Feminism: A Multifaceted Discourse, Dr. Sujata Bamane sheds new light on stories by and about women, analyzing roles women assume to survive. Dr. Bamane's insights about females in Shashi Deshpande's stories moving from "being" to "becoming" echo the title of Michelle Obama's recent memoir, Becoming.
In her keen analysis of author Shashi Deshpande's portrayal of women, Dr. Bamane notes that being a woman is itself a caste. Thus women are in a caste within a caste. Woman's role, determined by man, is to perpetuate social, cultural, and religious traditions, to be a "show-piece," and bear children. Can women abandon their ordained roles? Not easily. Dr. Bamane notes, "the stability for their life is offered at the cost of suppression of their individuality."
I highly recommend this book to students of feminism and literature. Dr. Bamane’s reflections, analyses, and references to scholars will greatly enhance your understanding and exploration of feminism and women’s writing.

I would have to say that I'm a proud reader of this insightful book. Dr. Sujata Bamane goes above and beyond established discourse to etch out a completely novel perspective about each literary piece she examines. Her prowess shines in the way she is able to efficiently showcase the depth of one novel through distinctly and impressively diverse research papers. This book has the definite potential of being used as reference material by students of Women's Writing as it illustrates how coherent research papers must be written in the best way possible. Dr. Sujata has expressed the reality of our society in a truly commendable manner. Her words, "Despite women being the soul of any civilization, it is the hierarchy of patriarchy in the Indian culture that forbids matriarchal values and offers a subordinate status to women" prove themselves to be true even in today's day and age. Conclusively, I must say that I would 100% recommend this book to everyone.
